So saturday morning i had to get up & pick up Nanci from work cuz she got sick & got sent home early. So, as i was on my way out the door, i saw that Hissy was doing the skin funnel in hide spin, aka shedding. So, once I got Nanci home, i looked & she had finished. I wanted to clean out the dead skin especially because she usually deuces inside of her shed. So, i lifted the hide & let her crawl out of the hide while i picked up the shed (complete & perfect as could be). I then went to grab her to move her & she curled up & hissed the loudest hiss I had ever heard from her. The thing was, it didn't end there, she just kept hissin for a good five minutes anytime i was even anywhere near the tank. Are they still extremely stressed right after the shed & is their new skin extra sensitive to the touch?? This really kinda bothered me cuz she was more upset than I had ever seen her. Lookin for some feedback on it! Thanks!

Hmm, I don't know, my snake has only shed once and I left him alone for a while after that. He shed early in the morning and I handled him later that evening when I got home from work. I got to watch him a little bit while he was shedding, and it looked like hard work! I would guess that it's normal for them to want to be left alone after that. I wouldn't worry about it. Have you handled her since then and was she okay after that?

My ball just shed over the weekend and I held him w/o problem. Wish I could help a little more, but that's all that I got!

Actually no, i have not handled her since because basically right after it happened, i went out to my parent's & Nanci's parent's houses for the memorial day weekend & when i got home earlier today, it was feeding time. So, i am not gunna be able to handle her for another coupla days while she digests her food. I'm sure that we will be alright, i was just curious to hear what other people had to say.

My guy was extremely fussy compared to usual after he shed last week - I think it stresses them out I can only imagine if my whole top layer of skin came off how stressed I'd be!

What size is best for first snake?

That's what I was thinkin Jonah. I am thinkin that I just didn't give her enough time after the shed. I was only gone for maybe an hour so you have to figure that she has JUST finished shedding when i went to grab her. Probably she just needed a little bit of time to relax after a stressful & strenuous event.

It's just a guess on my part, but I believe it's highly probable that they are quite tender immediately after a shed...and maybe quite nervous as well, still jittery after "surviving" such a vulnerable phase.

My bp just shed this evening and I finally saw him doing the ole "hide spin" and soon as he gotten it all off I picked up his hide to remove it because his hide with him in it is very tight now and first time he ever coiled up in the ole "s" strike position but didn't strike. I assumed he was pretty spent from it and just crabby. He then slithered over to his warm hide and I just left him alone.
Hissy was more than likely just tired.
