There are specific packaging requirements for shipping live reptiles, you have to use packaging that meets the FedEx standards. USPS boxes do not meet the standard, and are not appropriate (the "Priority" in the name means completely different things with each service).
The packaging we offer at ShipYourReptiles meets those standards. You can buy packaging in bulk if you have many shipments coming up, or you can buy a single shipping kit, which has everything you need to complete one shipment.
We offer a number of benefits at ShipYourReptiles, including the ability to ship to and from Residential addresses (not allowed under the regular FedEx reptile certification contract) and Live Arrival Insurance (we are the only ones to offer that). Our ShipYourReptiles Get Help section will walk you through all of the various details of shipping, including packaging choice and weather/temperature parameters.
You can ship to a FedEx facility, that is fine. As Deb mentioned, that would be a FedEx staffed facility. That is different than an Office Max, PakMail, Mailboxes Etc. type spot.
Those independent locations (including Kinko's/FedEx Office) each set their own policy on live and perishable shipments. Some will accept, some will not. A lot of Mom&Pop spots are very courteous and happy to ship and receive live shipments, but you should clarify that beforehand. If you ship to a FedEx Office that does not accept live shipments, they may refuse it and send it back to the hub, which can delay delivery by a day. Conversely, if you try and drop off your package at one of those locations and they refuse it, you could be scrambling to find the hub address before they close (folks often do a late day drop off, living little scramble time).
If you ship and receive to a FedEx facility, you won't have any problems with drop off or pickup.
You can also arrange with us to have a driver pick up the package from your home or office, that is fine, but there is a small pickup fee.
As for rate, there are a bunch of SYR coupons floating around for 40% off a shipment. Each SYR user can redeem one 40% code. If you don't know of a specific code, you can use APS40 and get the discount.
We work hard to support the industry and first time shippers like you. We would be thrilled to have your business. Feel free to contact us directly with any questions- Info@ShipYourReptiles.com
