how picky is your snakes

Its been a while since ive been on this site, and i was just wondering how picky are some of your snakes? Our normal was our fiercest eater never missing a meal, and a few months ago maybe February she changed to being this very calm and picky eater also missing 7 meals. So i try a lot of tactics from pre killed, scenting her surroundings , zombie dancing slowly, zombie dancing quickly (which some prefer) etc... And from other techniques she chooses for the f/t rat to be on her hide in her enclosure with the red bulb off eating in complete darkness . Iam wondering how can a snake be so fierce to becoming so gentle? And only 9 months old and weighting at 589 grams empty idk just happy she is eating.

My butter boy I originally got as a rescue at 43 grams used to be terrified of live or frozen thawed. I eventually got him eating live mice, and every once in awhile I'd try frozen and he still looked terrified. For awhile I gave up trying to switch, and one day someone e else wouldn't eat who was also a mouse eater, but on frozen thawed wouldn't eat while in shed. For fun I tried him and BAM, couldn't believe it. I was SURE he'd eat live mice his whole life. Then last week I even converted him to frozen thawed rats and is one of my eaters. My point is, they go through phases, and you just need patience and to keep trying. As long as they are healthy and your husbandry is good, they will eventually go back to eating like a champ.

My Pied is my most picky eater then my normal. The pied only prefers mice. I have tried and tried to switch him to rats, but no luck! He is healthy and that is what really matters! My normal only seems to want to eat once a month or so. Good luck to all and keep trying!

Oh, my normal has been eating good since late april havent missed a meal since ive drop the rat right onto the hot side hide. Great feeling !

Every feeding day is like opening a box of a Cracker Jacks. It's a surprise that I never know what it's going to be.

But if and when he strikes and coils, it sure gives me relief and puts a smile on my face.

Most of mine are great eaters. However,my black pastel is the WORST eater I have ever had. He more often than not refuses. I have tried everything but live..and I think I'm going to have to give that a shot soon. If he's not interested in that then I really don't know what I'm going to do with him.

I have an adult female Lesser Mojave that is probably one of pickiest snakes I've ever had to care for. She just snapped out of a 9 month fast at the end of April and then finally started eating again. Then after eating 2 separate times after her fast for me, she shed, and decided to go back to her refusing food for absolutely no reason. I'll offer a frozen-thawed rat, she'll stare at it, flick her tongue once or twice, then recede back into her hide and have no interest in it. She's in good health, but trying to have this girl consistently eat for me on a regular basis seems nearly impossible. The joys of picky snake!
