Re: Off the Ark owners death ruled Homicide

wait, what, it was a homicide and it took them 6 months to figure it out? how are they supposed to find the killer after giving him/her a head start of 6 months? if what the witness said about all the different blood stains all over the place is true, they should have figured that one out much faster.

truly depressing, that adds injustice to injury. if it really was a homicide, then they really screwed up the investigation and hurt a lot of people by sticking to the suicide narrative for half a year.

im speechless. if its true, then there is nothing i can say about the people handling the case that wouldnt trip the bad word filter of this forum.

First, the death certificate was updated to state "homicide" back on March 28th, not just now. So, the authorities did know and very likely were investigating even before then.

Second, it's also understandable that while the information is public and would have been available for several months for anyone who cared enough to look, it wasn't widely broadcast and no press releases were issued, so that the killer(s) wouldn't be alerted.

Third, if the killer(s) thought that they got away with the crime, then there's a pretty good chance one of them would slip up and say something, and word would get out. A lot of people are in prison because they talked themselves there.

Re: Vinny Ferraiolo found dead in his store

Kind of odd that his brother isn't convinced it was homicide. It's horrible to imagine that someone killed him, but generally the families of victims hope for justice, if not revenge. If William finds suicide the more likely scenario, you'd think others might have noticed - like his best friend who strongly suspects homicide. My heart goes out to both of them, and I suppose people will believe in whatever makes this tragedy easier to bear, it just isn't adding up to me.

unfortunately the clearance rate for murder is so low that smarter-than-average criminals have a good chance of getting away with it repeatedly. the low clearance rate also explains why many people only end up in prison because they brag about it.

here in Germany, where i live, they are really good at solving homicide cases, and the solved cases free up resources which can then be focused on unsolved cases. the clearance rate is around 97% for homicides.

and in the USA its just 63%. which basically means that if it isnt solved after several months, it will most likely never be solved, because unsolved homicide cases come and go so frequently. new cases come in, and the officers are used to the fact that over a third of the cases wont be solved. ambitious officers might strive for a clearance rate of 80% or more, which would set them up for a career, but even they drop the cases that get cold. in Germany, an ambitious officer that wants to stand out has no alternative, with 97% clearance rate in the background you can only stand out by solving the cases faster and better, and you need to go for the 100%.

its tragic in any case. i mean, whats worse for friends and family, a suicide or a homicide that most likely will never be solved? or only solved years later for a random reason, like the perpetrator bragging, or the perpetrator gets caught for something different and it comes up. and they had a taste of both, the public believing it was suicide for a long time, and now the documents clearly stating that it was homicide. thats really messed up. all these hundreds of students that knew him, wondering what went wrong and how it could be that he killed himself for so long, long enough to maybe start to get a grip and somehow accept it. only to find out that in fact he didnt do it, it was homicide, oh and, by the way, the killer is still out there.

its really terrible what happened here.
