Climbing

I've hear that alot of bps enjoy climbing, about how much height should a bp cage have? Because I need to find a rubbermaid that is tall if much space is needed.

well i dont have my bp's yet but i bulit a split level cage each level is 23" high but they will be able to climb almost all the way to the top that is about 45"

Well BP's are technically terrestrial snakes - that is, they stick to the ground, but many BP's appreciate something to climb on. My cage for my BP is only 12" high and this should suit him even as an adult, though I do provide a branch for him to climb on b/c he seems to like the variety a little higher would probably be nice but the cage model I really want is only 12" high. 18" would probably be best

tdragon, did you make you split-level or did you buy it? I want to make a split-level out of 2 rubbermaids about 16" tall but i can't think of a way to safely connect them and make it look nice too. any suggestions...?

Yeah! I'd really like to know how to connect rubbermaids also! That would give my bp plenty of room to climb.

Keep in mind that BP's in paticular like security ... this means close walls and not too much time exposed and in the open. If you're going to go with a pretty big enclosure you are going to need lots of hides because BPs don't feel safe in the open and get stressed... this stress could lead to a fast. I'm not saying don't build a big enclosure after all, BP's have plenty of room in the wild, but keep in mind they spend most of their time hidden in close quarters such as inside hollow trees or tree limbs or under ground. Just so ya know - not bashing the idea I want the best for my BP as well.

i built my split level cage theres a pic in my gallery. as for connecting 2 rubbermaide what i would do is cut a hole in the bottom of one and a hole in the lid of the other then drill holes in them and use zip ties to secure them together. that way when you take the top one off youll take the lid to the bottom one off.

My ball is too big of a clutz! I'd give him a maybe 2 feet, but anything above that and he would surely hurt himself :p

Its usually just the younger ones that enjoy climbing, they seem to mostly grow out of it. I have a fake tree that I let Bongo crawl around in every now and then, and he seems to enjoy it. When he was a baby he was agile enough to climb all the way up a pathos plant!
