Probiotic Supplement?
Hi! So, after the whole Arctic Mice fiasco, I had my frozen eater come back with a positive culture for salmonella. My vet and I just had a lengthy discussion about the situation and we agreed to pass on the antibiotics for now (as Persephone isn't showing any symptoms of being affected by the salmonella), but we agreed that maybe a probiotic might be a good course of action for her (and possibly my other snakes too, as a precaution). My vet didn't have any suggestions immediately (I brought up the probiotic, per my former vet-tech friend), but said I should easily be able to find one for my snakes with some research. I figured if anyone would have a good suggestion, this group would.
Any ideas, links, brands? I know I can't just tube her with yogurt (haha)...so any recommendations are appreciated as always!
Thanks!

Nevermind, I did some additional research....apparently NutriBac is the only brand on the market for reptiles.

I've never heard of NutriBac, but I've used plain soy yogurt, Bene-bac gel (for birds and reptiles), and a powder form for my bearded dragons. I haven't had a need to give any probiotics to our ball pythons.

Re: Probiotic Supplement?
Had one snake with a parasite back in Nov/Dec. Vet gave me Benebac for reptiles. Worked great.

Re: Probiotic Supplement?
This is fascinating. Probiotic consumption is a relatively recent health trend (not like it hasn't been around a while, conceptually) amongst humans, and I can't help but wonder if I should start labeling my frozen rats as gluten-free.
