Can foliage be used as a hide?

So, I know that bps need a hide on the warm side and cool side of their enclosures. My question is, do the hides have to be the hard cave type hides or does a large amount of foliage count as a hide? Honestly, my bps spend a lot of time in their foliage or I would not have thought about this question and, most of the time, I cannot find my little guy until I have moved his foliage around.
