    Keto diet

I'm not selling anything, I just wanted to share my experience with this diet so far and I was also curious if anyone has tried this out? We're 8 weeks in and so far I'm down to 161 lbs from 188, and my wife has seen similar results. The fat is continuing to melt away and we feel great, so we plan to continue with this indefinitely.

It's a low carb (~20g or less/day), moderate protein, high fat diet. Daily meals might consist of steak, chicken, seefood, pork (BACON!), dark green veggies. Lots of butter, heavy cream, mayo, ranch dressing, etc. Snacks: cheese (mini-Bel's are awesome), BACON!, peanuts/almonds/sunflower seeds, pork rinds. Banned foods: milk, fruits, grains, starches, basically anything with carbs/sugar. So no bread, pasta, cereals, beer, etc etc. I was very surprised at what foods I couldn't have anymore once I started paying attention to nutrition labels. It's not for everyone since the diet is obviously pretty restrictive as to the foods you can eat. I *love* potatoes, bread, and pasta and they were very hard to give up, but you get used to it after a couple of weeks.

The best part about the diet, besides dropping weight effortlessly (except for all of the cooking), is that all of the fat consumed makes you feel fuller for longer. No more starving yourself everyday like with most of the conventional calorie-counting diets.

Some light reading for anyone curious:

    sounds incredibly unhealthy.

why would you ban milk and fruit? and with all the bacon and steaks and cheese and mayo and butter, the price you might pay might be a heart attack or a damaged liver or something.

it sounds even less healthy than the atkins diet. thats also a low carb diet, but it allows milk and fruits and does not encourage you to overindulge in fat.

im not a doctor and not an expert, i just see that a whole lot of healthy stuff is banned and a lot of really unhealthy stuff is promoted.

Because Keto is a low carb diet and milk/fruit is loaded with carbs.

and with all the bacon and steaks and cheese and mayo and butter, the price you might pay might be a heart attack or a damaged liver or something.

It sounds unhealthy because you were taught the same nonsense about the evils of fat that the rest us have been spoon fed over the past few decades. I'd find some of the new research that is starting to pop up if I thought anyone would read it.

Also if you look into the Atkins diet you'll see that it's first phase is basically identical to this.

Still going strong and feeling great... I actually got some blood taken on Thursday because I was curious myself how the diet was effecting my body, though after reading many, many reports from others whose cholesterol had plummeted, blood pressure dropped, diabetics' blood showing normal levels, etc etc... I don't anticipate any surprises.

I guess we'll see later on next week

i think that (for example) eating lots of bacon is unhealthy, i dont think its nonsense, i think that is well established.

i hope it continues to work for you, but im really skeptical.

    Re: Keto diet

I lost 40lbs doing low carb, high fat and have had blood work done over the past two years I've been doing it. Blood work is spectacular and my digestive health has vastly improved. Fat is not the enemy.

However, just like anything else, moderation is key. This isn't a free pass to gorge yourself on high fat foods. Calorie intake still matters but it's much easier to feel full on a high fat diet so you do not eat as much.

Edit: Also, it's not just about fatty foods. It's also eating tons of veggies (non starchy). It's not a pure meat and dairy diet.

What ever happened with just eating healthy and exercising?

I have a friend who has been doing this diet and it is working for her as well, but please educate yourself on the risks that this diet holds (and any "diet", really). But good luck.

Reach for the stars, and if you don't grab them at least you'll fall on top of the world.

I had great success on the Keto diet too. Lost 50lbs in 3 months last year for surgery using this diet. Are you doing a clinical ketogetic diet or a cyclic?

processed foods...period are the real enemy....regardless of fat/carbs/protein contents....if everyone switched over to NON processed foods or started actually making home cooked meals again we would all be a lot healthier.

I think we're going to see a drastic change in what is considered "healthy" over the next decade or so. It's coming
