Mites!?
Ok so, I've got mites. I saw some on my bp when I brought him home but I thought id taken care of them as I used a spray and took the visible mites off before placing him in his new home... Now I started noticing them about 5 days ago. I dumped out his substrate and did a full clean, took off any visible mites I could find and put in new substrate yet I'm still finding them in him and in the water when I take him out daily. I just got my T8 in and I don't want to bring the mites with him into the new enclosure so how do I get rid of them? Could they be in the Cyprus mulch and therefore I'm inadvertently introducing more when I've spot cleaned? Thanks in advance for any advice!

If you have mites, put him on paper towel and treat the cage with PAM or nix (for lice but has worked for me in he past)

The mites are super tiny and can hide under your snakes scales. Removing the mites that can be seen just works on the ones that have made it to that life stage. I doubt the substrate is the issue as any mites in it would not be the type to live on your snake. Until you start to treat your snake the mites are only going to get worse.
PAM is highly recommended but not usually available locally. You can order it but that is more time the mites dig in.
I have used Reptile Spray with great success. It is only about $8 for a small spray bottle and can be found at Petco. It, unlike PAM, can be used on your snake. Just follow the directions and keep your snake on paper towels until you rid yourself of the mites.
You can spray Reptile Spray on pretty much everything. I cleaned my snakes, cages, bowls, table, and even the carpet directly around the area with it and killed them with one treatment. If your worried about the substrate you have you can spray it too.

Re: Mites!?
Clean everything again, use white paper towels as substrate. Treat with PAM asap.

Yea i got my 2nd python this past weekend and brought home a new lesser with/without mites, unfortunately either he came with mites or I brought them from the expo.. Hopefully they only are in the one tub since I cant find any in my spiders. I am going to do a solid cleaning job today. how exactly do you use the pam ? and do I need to soak the snakes to drown the mites under the belly scales?
60% of the time, it works every time

Follow the directions on the bottle closely. But more or less you remove everything but the paper towel substrate evenly apply PAM, and let it dry. The snake will most likely soak itself, I'd just remove the ones you can find on the snake and let the pam do the work.
