2-2 1/2 inches of substrate is WAY too thick. If you have the surface that the snake is resting on set at 90 degrees with 2+ inches of substrate and the snake burrows the glass bottom will be hot enough to burn it. Most manufactures suggest having a substrate layer no thicker than 1/2 inch depending on the substrate.
