Normal red tail boa or no?
So I just picked this little guy up off Craigslist. They said it's a normal red tail boa. But to me it (unsexed) looks lighter than the ones I've seen. Could you guys maybe tell me one way or another.
Thanks

Re: Normal red tail boa or no?
Just a normal common boa (bci). The give away with true red tails (bcc) Is the markings on their back. They look like 'bats', A simple Google search will show you what i mean about the 'bat' markings.
Animals are getting bigger and smarter. One day they will rule this planet once again.

Looks like a hypo BCI to me.

Hypo BCI, so not a "normal" and not technically a "red tail boa". An excellent find though, it's a cute little boa!

Thank you for the input.
I'm pretty happy with the find. Sweetest snake ever and I got the boa and this enclosure for $100. Total

Very nice pickup!! Absolutely not a "normal" - this is a hypo BCI - and a very clean one at that! As others have said, BCI (boa constrictor imperator) are not considered "red tailed boas". True Red Tails are the BCC (boa constrictor constrictor) from Surinam, Guyana, Brazil, etc. But it makes the BCI no less special. This is a nice baby - congrats!!

Thank you ! So what Is the difference between the two that makes it so my baby isn't a red tail? So mine is just a hypo columbian boa?

Red Tail is an over used and misleading term. It really isn't a kind of boa at all. It is a term "True Red Tail" that many use to describe the Boa Constrictor Constrictor (BCC). Most BCC have tail that will remain bright red into adulthood VS other types of BC's.
Colombian (True spelling), not "Columbian" boas can be BCC (rare) but are usually BCI.
Read this from a true authority.
This guy literally wrote the book on boas along with Gus Rentfro.
