Looking to buy some females...
I wanted to get some opinions on what combos you all would look for if you were me as well as which combos are your personal favorites.
I would like to produce clowns in the future, as well as both a puma and mystic potion. Lesser, fire, and enchi are all genes Id like to work in too.
Any ideas on interesting projects? Ill be heading to the reptile expo in a little over a month and I'd like to have a list together. Keep in mind that I'm not doing this to make money just for my own perconal enjoyment and for the experience.
Any ideas are appreciated!

If you want to work with clowns then I suggest you get a clown female now because recessive gene project(s) usually take longer.

Re: Looking to buy some females...
Would it be better to get a female clown and a male het clown or the other way around? i feel like if the male was visual clown then he could be bred to multiple het clown females.

Het female or 2 this year, especially if you can afford each with a different co-dom gene as well, then get a visual male next year.

I would rather get a visual clown female and breed her with a firefly male (for example) and then breed the male offspring (firefly het clown for example) with the female clown. I don't like buying hets UNLESS they're from a reputable breeder. Too many people calling their snakes het for something when they're not.

Perfect! So hopefully I can find an enchi het clown or a lesser het clown...or both!

Digizure,
Yea it does seem sketchy taking someone's word on a gene that you can't see...especially since I don't have any connections in the hobby at all. And a fiefly het clown x clown clutch would be crazy! So theres pros and cons to both male and female clown.

Everybody has their own strategy and I have my own.

Get a female Clown. If you get females het for Clown, it is cheaper, but you just said that you would not want to buy hets from someone other than a reputable breeder, so how easy will it be for you to sell your hets? If you're not in it for the money, then you don't need a lot of females to pair with your male to make up the investment costs (the main reason people get a visual male and multiple het females).
Also, if your females are het, it will take you 4 to 7 years before you have a visual, breeding female (2 to 3 years for your original females to reach maturity, 1 year of breeding, 2 to 3 more years for your first babies, assuming you get visual females, to reach maturity). How many snakes can you take care of?
If your desire is to work with Clown, Mystic Potions, and Pumas, I would recommend getting a Clown female, an Enchi Mojave female, and a Fire Yellowbelly female. Add combination males the next year, and you'll have a great start on some really cool projects.
