mite problem

Okay so it is officially confirmed that my snake has mites. I just ordered PAM and I'm not sure when it will arrive, but I was wondering what I can do for my little guy in the mean time. I am going to buy reptile relief today. So should I just throw out all the substrate I have and clean the hide and water bowl, in addition to soaking my snake and putting the reptile relief on?

The only part of his advice I don't agree with is spraying the snake directly with the NIX/RID permethrin solution. I use Reptile Spray to treat the snake, and the permethrin in the enclosure, hides, and paper as described.

change to paper towels as substrate, and give the snake a nice soak in lukewarm water (not too warm or the snake might freak out). with one drop of dishwasher fluid per gallon of water, so the mites drown faster. a hint of soap is enough for that.

this will drive down the number of mites and provide relief for your snake until PAM arrives. killing something like 99.5% of the mites is not enough to eradicate them, but it definitively buys you enough time.

unless you have other reptiles and there is a risk of the mites spreading, there is no need to panic or rush things. i see no need to spray anything on the snake. PAM can eradicate the mites without anything ever being sprayed on the snake or the water bowl.

Thanks and yes I only have him and I just brought him home this past Friday. I hope he doesn't freak out with me already handling him and such. Also, with all this going on, I have no clue when I should start feeding him either. What do you recommend?

Reptile relief and I would do paper towels or newspaper though. That way it's clean and doesn't harbor mites as easily. Make sure you keep him well watered, especially when you start using pam, it really dries them out.
