Upload your pics to a host site like Photobucket. Then if you hover the mouse over your pic there, it will give you the choice to "get links". Choose the URL and copy and paste it in your post here. Easy!

Re: new herper with new Hogg Island boa, please give advice

There, I think I got it, I'm working on a tablet so it wasn't so easy. Here's my big beautiful girl, her blues and corals didn't get picked up by the camera very well but you can see her size and condition. I'll post a few more pictures in a minute.

Btw, the bowl I put in with her is about double the size of the one that came with her. But it still seems too small, does she need a bigger one? Do hog island's like to have a place to bathe like a python does, or is a tipping issue more of a concern?

I wouldn't worry about giving her a bowl large enough to soak in - none of mine bother and it'd be hard to find a bowl large enough for her. I would get one bigger than what you have in there, but it doesn't have to be THAT big.

And she is NOT skinny. That boa is perfectly fine, in fact, she could loose a teeny bit. I would probably feed her a single large rat every 2 weeks.

Lol, well that's good to find out. When my coworker gave her to me I was worried I didn't know enough about boas. Now I know a little and I'll just have to keep learning. She's such an awesome snake I just want to do good by her. Thank you for all your help.

I must say she is a good looking snake. There isn't anything I can add that other haven't said already--but larger snakes can make some noise when you handle them due to only being supported by hands. The only thing that it could be that is a problem is a respiratory infection, so just be on the lookout for bubbles/sneezing etc

I can't wait for my hog island to get that size.

Thanks! I think I was suffering from new parent anxiety when I posted this Since I have had her for a little while now she has stopped hissing entirely now and I never hear her breathing hard when I hold her. She has gotten comfortable enough with me to just sit in my lap for a few minutes and and climb around on me, when before she just wanted to get away from me. Her previous owner said that she was a moody/sensitive girl, but also that she loved to be held and would sit in her lap for hours while watching tv. It's evident to me that she does enjoy getting out and being held, but she is wary of new people. I cant wait until she has that much trust in me! I'm finding that the trust/security issue with new people is very indearing to me.
Does your hog island have a similar personality? I'd love to see a pic of it, how old is it?

Here are some quick phone pics. They don't do her pink colors justice! she is about a year old, maybe a bit less. She is very inquisitive when I have her out. As you can see, she came right out to investigate when I opened the rack. I think she was looking for food this time though since she was moving pretty quick . She will hang out on me the whole time I have her out, she doesn't try to get off of me. Usually she'll stay wrapped on my hands/arm, or crawl up to my face.
