    Fake Plants

    Hey guys,

Sorry again for another post. I got some fake plants for my snake. He seems to like climbing all about them and stuff. They're the kind that you buy at craft stores and stuff. I stuck 'em in there by fixing them under a heavy rock, but it's not super sturdy and it falls down on him when he climbs on them. Is there a better way you guys fix your python's cages?

I would love to know this as well. I'm getting ready to move my baby into a bigger home so I need to put more plants etc.

There is not really a good way to fix them. You will need to remove them for cleaning.
One thing I would suggest is if you have any type of wood such as grape vine you could use a wood screw and attach it. I buy most of my fake plants from craft stores and they have a thick stem that sticks into foam blocks. I put that to the back side of the wood and run a small screw in it. This will allow you to remove it for cleaning.

One thing to be careful of with plastic plants...check over them very carefully to look for any closed loops of plastic. We had a pretty "vine" in a snake's cage for years without realizing it had such loops until our gopher snake got itself wedged so tightly into one of them that it left a permanent dented ring around its body and may have led to its death a few months later. A few simple snips with scissors would have prevented a terrible event.

Thanks for the advice, guys. He seems to really like the plants, but just need a way to keep them there when he climbs on them.

And JLC I think I saw your post on that while prowling on the threads here. Sorry to hear about that--it's something that I would've never thought about prior to visiting these boards.
