    Beginner thermostat question!

    Hello everyone!

I'm brand new and looking to start (slowly) collecting BPs and possibly breeding - just for fun and on an extremely small scale - in the distant-ish future. I have ordered a Boaphile Plastics rack (the 4-tier Ballroom Rack, with heating included) and am looking forward to my first acquisitions - I'm thinking a bumblebee girl and a pied boy (I know all the relevant advice about "girls first" since they take so much longer to grow... but I want a pied really badly and this way every single one of my morphs will be at least het pied once I do get around to breeding! :D). So excited! Gah.

Okay, so, question time: will a Herpstat 1 take care of that whole rack? I only ask because I see the 700 total watt output and I know the Boaphile has two rows of the heat tape on each section, and the site states that it's over 50 feet of flexwatt. I figure it will probably be fine... but thought I would defer to the experts before I go ahead and make the investment.

If anyone has any other words of wisdom, tips, forewarnings, etc, I'd be please to hear them! So glad to meet you all! :)

    Re: Beginner thermostat question!

I did this whole rack system and breeding thing in my head also. I built my rack with 6 tiers of 41 qt tubs and 6 inch thg heart tape. I divided it into to heat sections. Top 3 and bottom 3. I was looking at the VE-300x2 and the herpstat 2. Like you I am thinking about breeding down the road so I looked and a herpstat 4. That does 4 zones. I decided on the herpstat 4 because I split my rack in 2 zones and if/when I breed and build another rack or get an incubator I have enough zones that I wont need to by a thermostat right away. So long version but that was my reasoning for buying the herp 4

Well if I were you id simply get a Herp 2 or VE-300 (for 2 probes) that way when you get another rack (with bigger tubs that need thicker tape) you can use, with there heat tape, i think they use the 3" which i belive is 10watts/foot

So even still your only at "500" still 200 watts left, Secondly, you Can use a power bar (simple 1 no need for the 50$ ones) and connect EACH section into the power bar then connect that into your Herp. The only thing is, IF you have a second rack 41qt for bigger girls you'd need 6-12" heat tape. Which needs to be connected to the other outlet, (aslong as the flexxwatt or THG tape is same size/wattage) they can be all ran into power bar then into herpstat.

Good luck with your snakes! I have both Pied/Bumble bee and like you just got my Spied out of them! Gorgeous snakes!
