People generally don't feed gerbils because they are expensive feeders. And if you feed older animals live, they are more dangerous than rats due to their larger teeth.

Not to mention that gerbils and hamsters are like crack to BPs.
It is nearly impossible to get a snake to take another rat or mouse after a gerbil fed BP. It's not impossible, but it is extremely difficult to switch back to more common feeders.
