Question about thermostats/heat tape

I ordered heat tape a while ago and got individual sections cut and wired for each snake I had, because at that point I was expected individual enclosures. Since I've decided to do a rack system for most of them, I don't want to have to purchase individual thermostats for each piece. I had a thought though. Would I be able to plug the separate pieces into a power strip, and then plug the power strip into the thermostat? I imagine that so long as I stay within the wattage limit of the t-stat and monitor the temps carefully I should be ok but I wanted to know if anyone had tried it before.

If they are the same size and wattage, yes.

If they are variable sizes and lengths or wattages, no.

They're all 16" sections of 6" tape with 12 watts a foot. I did the math and it doesn't come close to the max current for the thermostat. *phew*

Yup. As long as all the pieces are identical, you can plug them into a power strip.
