This is kind of what I mean by them already being simple creatures, and not being willing to cut it down to the absolute 'won't kill the snake' minimum.
Do I believe they will DIE without hides, substrate and a water bowl? No. I understand that they're reptiles and not exactly complex creatures. I get that all they need is fed once in a while, the right temps and humidity and cleaned up after. But at some point it becomes spartan to the degree that it's just SAD. Yes, sad for me, but still sad. I'm not breeding. These are just my pets. But keeping them in an empty warm box just...depresses me. Getting a drink of water when they want one and having a secure place to curl up isn't overly complicated, I don't think, or beyond the realm of reason to provide.
