Bp question

Hi so for about 6 months now I've been trying to figure out a good first snake for me I've narrowed it down to a ball python or red tail boa and i do like carpet pythons too, but I'm trying to figure out all the info I can before I decide and get one. Anyways what are some problems such as a disease or injury to name a few that you have faced with your ball python that I should be aware of and avoid to the best of my ability. Thanks in advance

Respitory infection is the main one really. Its fairly easy to care for ball pythons. I have two and they're in perfect condition.

The biggest disease is "snake addiction." One leads to many in alot of cases. That then injures your bank account.

The main thing you are going to read about is RI or respiratory infection. They can be causes by many different factors but is mainly avoided by providing the correct husbandry.

Mites is another issue. They can hitchhike home from reptile shows and stores or can come free with a new snake. More of a pain to deal with overall. Search PAM(prevent a mite) or Reptile Spray. They are good for ridding you of them.

That's the main issues I see most here.

So pretty much the only issues with ball pythons is usually caused by their keepers. Like some people already mentioned, respiratory infections, mites and an occasional bite from from a live mouse or rat is pretty much the only things you have to watch out for.

With that said, they're great beginner snakes. Some people say they're kind of boring, but if you're looking for a snake with a good temperament, that doesn't get very large and that's easy to take care of, ball pythons is the way to go.

I love ball pythons (obviously)! The only down falls are them being picky eaters sometimes. But if you do a good job taking care of it than you probably won't have any issues. Some go off feeding for breeding season (my male went 6 months) and sometimes it's because they are in poor housing conditions etc. Overall they stay a great size and are super friendly and feeding them cost less than boas oh and they are addicting, you can't just have one lol
