    Question Tubs??

I have a few questions regarding keeping your snake in a tub.

I do not wish to have a rack setup, I have one snake, and I am inquiring about getting another, they are pets, so I don't plan to breed, therefor, I have no reason to want one.

However, Everyone seems to swear by using a plastic tub instead of a glass aquarium-like setup. My guy came with the glass tank he is in, and has been in it for several years, and although I fight with temps and humidity I have been able to maintain them.

    So my questions are:

    1. What types of tubs are good for a bp? would something like this be acceptable?http://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/Sterilit.../6000083361075

    2. Can you use an UTH with this type of set up, or would it melt? This is a great concern I am having, I have learned many times heat and plastic do not mix....

    3. Any thread/article I have ever read about enclosures for balls have said that an adult needs at least a 30gal in order to be comfortable, however if you use tubs/racks that is obviously not the case. So what is the rule of thumb when it comes to a tub?

and 4. Just would like some advice on what would be the best materials I could use to make a tub enclosure, based on personal experience/preference.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Yes that tub will work, although a shorter (height) one will make it easier to maintain temps and humidity. I use a couple of the smaller (24x16x14) ,older style sterilite latch bins for 2 of my corns, although they'll be next into the rack .
    2. You can use a uth, or heat tape, there's no way it should melt it if operating properly. Another reason to use a thermostat or rheostat(dimmer). I use heat tape on all my bins, and have even used human heat pads with them when i started out.
    3. Floor space is more important than volume. That bin you linked is about the same floor space as a 30 gallon breeder. Good size for large adult, some would say too large.
    4. If you want to build an enclosure, there are lots of good threads in the DIY section here. You can use melamine if you're on a budget. Do some searching, there's lots of good ideas here and elsewhere. If you want to buy an enclosure, I recommend Cornel's World, Greg there makes some pretty sweet enclosures.
