I wish I could help but I go by age. Once they hit the magic 6 week mark for me the game starts. Many people will tell you to wait until they are older than that though.

The rats I have are 2 months old and they won't breed and It's frustrating because the reason Im trying to do it is to feed my snakes

The male chases the female and tackles her but I don't know what that means

I wait until 250 grams minimum. That's usually about 3 to 4 months.

Why keep a snake? Why keep any animal? Because you enjoy the animal, find something beautiful and fascinating about it, and it fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.

    Re: Rat size

Ya about 250g for the females, males can do it younger but the female may not let them breed.

2 months is possible but they are most likely too immature to breed.

I currently have about 300 rats in my small colony. Wean the babies when they hit about 4-5 weeks and start breeding at about 250g.

Yup. I also do 250g minimum for females as well.
    Males can be maybe 150g+.
