As much as we humans like to place our human emotions on the snakes, they don't have them. They don't miss each other, they don't care about each other, they aren't friends, they don't love us back, and they don't even like us.
They tolerate us, they might even become familiar with us to the point they know we give them food or we won't hurt them, but at the end of the day if we dropped dead, or a tank mate dropped dead, they wouldn't care. Snakes just don't have human emotional.
So to answer your question is it is best to separate them. Is it possible to have two snake cohabitate? Yes, is it wise, no.
Also being opposite sex you will eventually have eggs. And it may be earlier than the female is ready, and that stress may kill her.
