Argentine Boas

Who has them? Anybody know any breeders who are working with them right now? They seem really hard to come by. Not looking for any T+ or albinos, just normals.

Yes, I have a 1.1 pair. My male is a normal het T+ and my female is a black motley het T+. The male is a 2010 and is ready to breed, producing sperm plugs and trying to seduce the ladies and all that... My female won't be ready for another year or two though. She is a 2011 and the Argentines mature more slowly than Colombians. She still has to nearly double in size so she's spurning my male's wooing (JK - they have never been together. As I said, the female isn't mature enough. I'm just being goofy). Here they are....

Any information is more than welcome. I hear they keep a little cooler than colombians and are typical hissy pants as babies? Any other differences from normal colombian boas? They can get bigger, but what is average? How big is your male at 4yrs and when did his pattern really start coming in?

I got my 100% het T+ and visual male pair from Jimi Snakes: he should be having a litter or two drop this year. And also T+ and albino are considered the same thing with argies.

They do like slightly cooler temps. I keep my younger female in a rack along with my Colombians and she does fine at their temps, but I think she'd prefer a degree or two cooler - she spends about 3/4 of her time at the cooler end. I keep my male at 76 ambient and an 88 hotspot. He does nicely with that. My female will be at the same once she is moved to a larger enclosure.

They are more temperamental than Colombians. Mine are generally pretty nice, but I do exercise caution when I first reach in for them. I have hook-trained the female. She does a great impression of an angry King Cobra.....

They are larger and more heavy-bodied than Colombians. The females can push 8-9 feet and the males around 7 or so. They are thicker and heavier too. Not quite as long as BCC, but heavier. They are impressive snakes. My male is about 5 1/2 ft and roughly 10-12 lbs. I bought him as a yearling so his pattern was already quite distinct. The female's too.

Do you have to have any paperwork for them due to the species status?

No, not if they are CB here in the US. They are CITES I protected in Argentina so they cannot be imported or exported, but if they are bred here in the US, there is no paperwork needed.
