    Building vs. Ovulation

At first I thought it would be hard to tell the difference...

I thought she was getting close when she started to build and got pretty thick, so I took a picture every day to see progress and she finally ovulated today! Here's the pics in order:

This picture was taken this morning (the famous bowl wrap let me know it was coming soon!!):
Then 5 hours later, I took this one:
I can see what they mean by tail suck now!

The countdown starts Thanks for looking!

congrats. please take photos of the after ovy too. i want to see the progress as she nears egg laying. mine is done with ovy and i'm quite concerned with the drastic reduction in girth. mine looks even smaller than when she started building.

What exactly do you look for to find ovulation? And can you describe what the "building" part is. Also do these apply to all snakes or just BPs?
Just new to the breeding side of information.

Building is just the female developing follicles. She'll start to look heavier in the tail end of her body. Ovulation when these follicles are fertilized and she will swell up in one portion of the body (you can see in my pics above). Here's a site with some good info and pictures. http://ballpython.ca/gallery/breeding/

Not sure about other snakes though!
