Dragon agamas??

I am looking to get my first lizard and was thinking about getting a CBB dragon agama! I was wondering if any of you guys have any pictures of yours I could check out. I wouldn't mind seeing any arboreal lizard cages too for ideas! also any recomendations for less common, reletively inexpensive lizards for intermediate keepers to have as pets. Thanks, everyone. This site has been great so far!

Dont know a thing about dragon agams but as far as other lizard suggestions, are you wanting only arboreal lizards, and what are you considering inexpensive?

What other herps do you have?
You mention you want something less common for an intermediate keeper, but I am just wondering if your experiences would be as relevent to lizard care? I don't know a tonne about lizards, but I do know that they can vary quite a bit, as with other herps. I mean I'm sure there are transferable skills there as well, but you can never be too careful! I totally understand the uniqueness factor, but there might be other species to check out as "starter" lizards, to get you eased into their care.

Lizards do require a bit more attention especially of you are dealing with a more intelligent species. The more attention you give them the tamer they become.

Yeah, I understand. Right now i have 5 snakes and a tarantula. I've cared for more than that however. I know how much attention lizards need compared to snakes and that they are much faster. What I meant, by intermediate keeper, is being able to manipulate an enviroment to meet an animals needs. I've since decided to either get a steppe runner or just stick to snakes for now. I'm really more of a snake person but I would like a lizard since they are more personable. The things I am looking for in a lizard is it being diurnal, active, handleable , and strictly instectivorous.Thanks!

Off topic: How old is your tegu?

I don't honestly know how handleable/personable steppe runners are, I was always under the impression that they were more of a display, leave alone type pet. That being said if you want purely insectivorous you may want to look in leopard or fat tail geckos, they are cool little guys. Beardies are fun too, but they do require some greens. Blueys, Tegus and monitors are out because they require a varied diet and are above the 100 dollar price range. All that being said when I first got my Blueys I thought it would be a lot of work preparing food for them, since they don't eat insects, but it turns out that its is a lot easier than keeping bugs on hand. Just some food for thought. Lizards are a ton of fun, and I have found the smarter ones are the most personable/rewarding. My Tegu is just a hatchling. I have been handling them for quite a while, but when I decided to get one I wanted to start with a hatchling so that I could go through the process of trust building and taming myself, vs taking in one that someone else did all the work with.

I've looked at blue tounges before but decided against them for their diet. Even in thier older ages, feeding their varied "chow" is easier? I would love to have a blue tounge.
Well a lot of pet stores will tell you steppe runners are flighty. Thats because they are, when they are babies, just like most animals. I've held 4 adults and all of them have been more relaxed and friendly than I thought they would be! But I have held 1 baby and didn't want to handle any baby steppe runners anymore lol. It was like capturing a small western fence lizard. I really like tegus. I fell in love with them after playing around with an adult at the pet store. I could handle the space but the cost of feeding seems a bit high for me.

I feel it is in fact easier and here is why. I make a bulk supply of food once a month. In all it probably only costs me between 10-15 bucks a month to feed both my adult Blueys. I go to the grocery store and get a pound of ground turkey, various squash, raddishes, a mango or papaya, bananas, dark leafy lettuce, carrots, cucumber, maybe a bell pepper, chicken gizzards/hearts and eggs (the veggies/fruits is where the variety comes in once in a while you can change them up, throw in cactus etc) . I chop it all up very fine mix the ingredients together in a bowl throw in 2 raw eggs and crunch them up then portion it off in ziplock baggies and toss it in the freezer. So 15 bucks a month plus 30 minutes of prep time. Then when it comes to feeding them I just defrost a bag at a time and keep it in a tupperware container in the fridge, scoop a serving out before work, put it on a plate and set it in the enclosure, when I get home from work the food is gone and I pull the dishes out.
