Couple of my girls have quit locking...no hope for them this year?
So I have a couple girls who were locking like crazy at the beginning of their breeding season cool down time, but now as one female lays and another is getting ready to, I haven't seen either of the other two ovulate, and neither have locked for probably a month and a half or two months with the males I have put them with.
Both females were on the smaller end of breeding size (1350-1400 grams), but both were locking like crazy initially and now I can't get them to lock if my life depended on it! Is there any advice anyone can give for this, or is there a good chance I'm just out of luck for this season with them? Both females are rejecting food (one has never been a reliable eater, the other was always pounding food!) but they just won't lock with the boys anymore!!
Any advice would be appreciated, I just can't figure out why they quit locking!

Not that I can tell, but that isn't saying much because I couldn't feel follicles on my girl that just laid.

Just because they stop locking doesnt mean that they won't go on to ovulate when their follicles get to the size they need to be. They can store the sperm for over a year and ovulate without even being paired.

This season I've had a strange amount of females breed once and then ovulate later on. I just got a clutch this morning from a female that bred once in January. I also have a female that bred once in December and is just about to ovulate so don't give up hope yet.

All may not be lost. I, too, have had girls go with only a single lock.
But sometimes they don't go, just part of the game. If they don't, then just accept it, and get ready for the next year. That'll give you another year to get them nice and big so you'll get a nice big clutch next year!
