helping child with salt water rinse
My four year old sister has a cavity and we need to give her salt water rinses but she's being very uncooperative. To try and help her I offered to fill a syringe with salt water and squirt it directly onto the spot so she didn't taste as much salt, i also offered to put a grape on her tongue so she would taste that as a distraction from the salt water. She is still too scared of the taste to let me do it, and is content to starve herself before she lets any salt water in her mouth. The last thing i want to do is force her but we have to rinse the infection, and it has to be done over the course of two weeks until the inflammation goes down before she can get fillings. so what can i do to help her?

Ask her why she doesnt like the salt water rinse and really try to figure out why its bothering her. Is she on antibiotics? I'm no doctor or dentist but i dont think salt water rinses alone will get rid of the infection. I had a tooth removed and was on antibiotics and had to do the rinses. Don't make this a you against her thing, try to figure out a way to make the whole thing fun.

Re: helping child with salt water rinse
I'm a dental assistant if she is refusing give her warm water to graggle and use for the the first day and add small amounts of salt as the days go on but decent increments in amount of salt ... That's what we would recommend
