from herpdigest.com:
Florida’s Rocky the “Flying” Turtle
Story based on – “Turtle flies into van windshield” on I-95
5/13/05 Stuart News, Indian River County:
A flying turtle crashed through the windshield of Ralph Glaister this
afternoon on Interstate 95.
Glaister was heading north on I-95 just south of Indrio Road in St.
Lucie County when he noticed the turtle attempting to cross the
interstate. "I saw the turtle crossing the road when it was slightly clipped by
the truck in front of me, which sent it flying into the air and through
my windshield," he said. “it hit the glass on the passenger side,
busted that out and landed next to me."
"It seemed like it happened in slow motion." Glaister was more worried
about getting immediate help for the 1-foot-long turtle than fixing his
windshield after the crash.
"It is amazing (the turtle) wasn't injured," he said. "He came flying
through the windshield at 70 miles per hour.
Luckily, both Glaister and the cooter box turtle were not seriously
injured. The turtle suffered minor cuts to its tail and back legs, but the
shell was not damaged. Glaister walked away without a scratch.
Glaister plans on releasing the turtle into a nearby pond.
(Editor: From the photo published with the article, the turtle seems to
have been a large Florida red-bellied turtle (Pseudemys nelsoni).

Wow, that's quite a story! Can you imagine something that big and heavy flying at your windshield? Lucky the guy didn't crash his car! I love a story like that, where the people involved care about the animals, and nobody gets hurt!

Mouse or rat?

Doh, where I used to work my old boss was a volunteer fire fighter in the same town, call comes over the radio and he grabs me to take a ride.
Someone was driving their car and out runs a wild turkey into the road. I don't know if you guys have ever seen wild turkeys but they are a hefty animal. so You guessed it, big huge turkey goes through this guys windsheild and is still alive! (Now if you have seen turkeys you know how big their feet are) The turkey proceeds to beat the crap out of this poor guy in a frantic last resort. The guy is able to pull his car over and jump out. Sadly the turkey didn't make it, and the gentleman was hospitalized for a short period of time. But I bet he'll be watching for turkeys!

welcome!
AH! Wild Turkeys are the meanest SOB's ever! We had a whole bunch of wild turkeys living in our sub-division here outside of Chicago - they were the meanest creatures I have ever seen, they used to peck children off of their bicycles.
