Ceramic heater for a light fixture

Out of curiosity how well do these work for heating an enclosure? I am working on building enclosures that are going to be 36" x 24" x 12". I am trying to estimate the most cost effective way of heating the enclosure. Currently every snake is in their own tank with screen mesh top and a light. (well two lights but only one is on at a time). I can't do a rack system since my house is old (1882 ish) and keeping ambient room temperature up would be very difficult.

CHEs work, but will make keeping your humidity in the proper range a nightmare. You don't have to heat a whole room. You could insulate a closet and use a oil filled radiant heater to keep the proper temp in the smaller space. You can run it off a thermostat. In the long run, it might be more cost efficient than running multiple CHE's, humidity problems aside.

Re: Ceramic heater for a light fixture

I was planning on using 3/4" melamine to build the enclosures with. If I were to do that heating it from the exterior might be difficult using the heat tape stuff or undertank heaters /w thermastat. This project is still in the concept stage so figuring out ways to heat is the biggest issue I am having at the moment. I don't think I will have much issues with humidity with these boxes I am building.

Radiant heat panel, I just built a melamine enclosure and installed a pro products radiant heat panel. So far so good and humidity has been as easy creeping the water bowl over from the cold side to the hot side and stopping when I get to the humidity I want.
