Anyone had VPI pet insurance for their snakes before?
Hey everyone, so im looking into some pet insurance for my BPs and the vet im thinking of going to for a checkup only takes VPI pet insurance.
Has anyone dealt with VPI insurance before?
The coverage plan isnt bad at all. It's $16.85 a BP. It doesn't cover routine checkups but it does fully cover any injuries, respiratory issues or illnesses including meds. There's a max coverage cap of $2,000 per incident and $7000 per year. There's also $50 bucks out of pocket per incident.
What are your thoughts/experience on this subject?

I kinda see it as a rip off, I mean just for me, 40 snakes x 16 bucks, then another 50 if something happens? I think I've only been to the vet twice since I owned snakes. It cost me under 100 bucks each time. I think 99% of us would be ahead paying out of pocket.

I can see it if you have one pet snake but even then the odds are still on the insurance company's side they always are.
In just the last 5 years only something like that would have cost me $60655 in insurance while my vet cost in the last 5 years has been $0, and even if a few animals had been sick paying out of pocket would be a lot cheaper.

Sounds like a waste, even for one snake...your best bet is to put your money into a fund for any vet or equipment emergency.

I absolutely agree with you. Insurance is based on a notion of "what if".
However, you can always get insurance for two snakes and then interchange them with other ones. I doubt they ask for photo proof.

I used it for my dogs back in the day and it honestly wasn't worth it. There is so much they won't cover and I rarely paid for itself.
