Snake Whistling

Hey guys I'm new to The forum, I currently own 2 BP's

1.5 yr old female Normal

5 month Male Low white pied

I just took in the Pied not more then 2 weeks ago But im hearing a whistle, now iv done my research talked to pet stores, and they say not to worry.
He is in Blue atm and was dauling out last week (when i noticed this noise) it Isnt wheezy nor are there bubbles/mucus or any mouth breathing, Temps are 91 hot spot 79 coolside, with humidity at a 72% (during shed) and was 60ish when i first got him.

Now the issue is, when i first took him out after a week of him adjusting i heard a slight whistle only 1-2 times though and i could see him almost puffing/taking deep breaths. And again last night, i put him in a warm water to help his shed, while cleaning his tank. and a couple whistles, but when i put to my ear nothing, its only about 3-4 times At most, then its fine, after his bath i took him out dried him and opened his lip nothing, opened mouth with Q tip stick. Nothing, iv read it is most likely his *Hiss* or his shedding skin being loose in nostril.

IF its still prevalent after his shed ill be trying the home treatment for RI, if no signs of helping in week vets i go, But until his shed gone i just want a piece of mind as my Herp vet is away for another week.

Dont worry about the whistle! We have 3 snakes that do it and it isnt nothing but natural. Dont start treating for an RI unless RI is present. No point putting meds into a perfectly healthy snake. Now if there is bubbles or wheezing or you see them holding their mouth open trying to breath then i would worry. Your temps are good. Cool side could go up a little like 80-82 but it should be good where its at.

Sounds like a hiss to me

(It is also possible that with a shed coming they may make a funny noise as well. Not too sure about this with ball pythons, but I know some corn snake breeders on other forums have described this.)

The more you handle and your snake gets used to you, the less this should happen. I have only had my BP hiss a handful of times. It's adorable! Does sound just like a little whistle. I've had him for half a year, and haven't heard it since.

Yea thank you, didnt get any notifications, His shed finished, and hes back to normal before his shed started he wouldnt hiss but kinda "Huff/Puff" take a big breath and let it out, But thank you, and for natural all i was going to do was the Steam box with vapor rub and Euakliptis oil. Def feel better was worried bout the little guy!

and as for cold side, during winter harder to keep it up never drops below 77 but come spring/summer his coolside will rise up to around 80ish

We have one that whistles. She has done it for going on 3yrs. We call her hatchet face. We're pretty sure she got it from striking at rats and missing them and hitting the side of the tub when she was young. She's given us plenty of eggs and is just as fine as the rest of the snake. She just whistles. Don't worry about it.

As everyone else has said, it's most likely perfectly normal, especially if they're going into a shed cycle. Sometimes the skin will get a little loose around their nostrils causing the whistling noise, and after they shed it goes away. But I have one that's whistled her whole life and she's perfectly healthy sitting at a chubby 1700 grams. lol I don't worry about RI's on whistling alone. If you see bubbles coming out of their nose then you need to get to a vet.
