    Lightbulb Scale Conditioning

I have read about people using scale conditioners to improve the condition of their snakes scales and help them shed, I have also browsed the internet and have come across products that supposedly help your snake shed. While I know a good soak can help a snake through a stubborn shed, I was wondering if anyone actually uses these kind of products, or has home remedies that improve scale conditions.

I am asking because while reading some of the ingredients used in the shedding "helper" it said it used jojoba oil, which I know is super awesome for moisturizing and repairing human skin. Has anyone ever tried using this or things similar (like coconut oil) on their snakes? And if so was it safe and did it have any positive effects?

Just thought it would be interesting to look into it!

    Thankssss

Pardon the pun, but all that crap is just snake oil, designed to separate you from your cash.

The best thing you can do for your Ball Python's scales it to feed it properly, provide it with the proper humidity and temperature every day (not just when you see their eyes turn blue), and let the snake do the rest.

    Re: Scale Conditioning

I keep a bottle of zoo meds "repti shed aid" around for emergency use. It works great on the rare occasion someone has a shed issue, but like slim said proper husbandry is always the permanent solution

A waste of money that's all it is, for proper shed all you need is meet their husbandry need, if you do not then you need to.

And if for some reason your snake has a bad shed the only thing you need is some lukewarm water, a tub, and a washcloth. Snake goes in the lukewarm water for 10-15 minutes, take the snake out and let it run through the washcloth, and there's a nice clean snake. And even if you do end up with a bad shed, the next good shed means it'll all come off so you don't even need to do the soak. Rubbing a snake with oil designed to soften skin can lead to scale sloughing, and then you've got a real problem on your hands.
