    Making a humid hide?

I'm having trouble keeping the humidity up in my BP's tank.. I have tried a bigger water dish, towels on the top, damp cloths and tin foil and it still goes down fairly quickly. I want to get him a humid hide but don't really have the money right now. I plan on getting cypress mulch bedding to see if that helps. Is there any way I can make a humid hide? Some one suggested moss in a container so i am going to try that. Please help! I worry for my little guy while I am at work and I notice his skin is fairly dry when I come home..

I have moss as the substrate on half of the tank under the cool hide. My bp loves it she can move it around as she pleases.
You can also get a plastic bowl from the dollar store cut a hole in it and line it with moist paper towel or put paper towel under it.
The only problem with both of these is here no real way to get the humidity in just the hide.
Just a light spray is good as i know Ive made mine to moist before and is not good for the snake.

It is the EASIEST thing - I can almost promise you

I'll give you steps to make one!

    1) Buy sphagnum moss (actually very cheap - from most pet stores)
    2) Do you eat margerine? Yogurt? Anything in a sizeable plastic container with a lid? If not, head to the Dollar store and grab a plastic container with a lid - something large enough for your snake, but also cozy. I suggest something that is not clear, but if that's all you can find...
    3) Wash said container with HOT water and dish soap, vinegar, or bleach, and RINSE thoroughly as you would with other decor/water bowls
    4) Cut hole large enough for snake to fit in; either in lid or in side of container, making sure to sand down rough or sharp edges. If you do this, rinse it out again
    5) Let moss soak in water (see directions) until it is absorbed. Then, ring out moss until it is damp and not wet
    6) Add moss to container (with lid) and place in vive. If you want added humidity, place over or near hot spot.

    TAADAA!

Make sure to check the hide every other day or couple of days for mold. If you find mold, simply throw out the moss, wash the container, and replace with new moss. I'd suggest replacing before you find mold though. I don't have an exact time frame for you, but I change mine every week or two, depending on how much time my snakes hang out in there.

    Best of luck!

    Re: Making a humid hide?

So you just have the moss laying in the cage?
Someone also suggested putting moss in a container, filling it up with a bit of water and poking holes in the lid.. I might try that too...
I over mist the cage a bit before I got to work in the morning just so it stays at least above 20% when I get home but still I worry about it... His skin was fairly dry yesterday and we were gone all weekend.

    Re: Making a humid hide?

Yea i basically have sphagnum moss on half the tank on the cool side with the hide on top of it.
It kind of covers the entrance to the hide because its kinda fluffy but she always gets in and gets out.
She actually covers the other smaller entrance with the moss so when shes in there I cant see her =(.
hahaha w.e makes her comfortable lol.

I was having issues with humidity as well, then I switched to paper towels as my substrate. Now, I have no issues with humidity (even though I have 50 gallon glass tanks).
