It really is a site and smell unlike anything else. I can snap some photos next week after the purple girl has her 4 lbs of rabbit in her for a few days. That usually does not disappoint. . . But in all honesty, the poo does not bother me one bit. I grab some toilet paper and pull it out log by log. Then replace the substrate. The urine is what gets you. A liter from a typical release is common, 2 liters is not unheard of either. The ammonia smell alone is so over powering that I know exactly when one of the snakes has done the deed. . . This reason alone is why I'm completely reverting from using aspen in my retic enclosures, and now only use unprinted newspaper in a couple layers. It don't look natural, but it helps a lot with keeping the snakes healthy by being able to replace it quick and easy and not missing aspen spots where urine had dried quicker than I could get to it.
this is why I switched to paper towels, even though I am sure gentle giants take on a lot more water than my measly BPs. if they're tough to clean up after in loose substrate, I can't imagine the nightmare that is cleaning a retic cage after a nice toilet day.
