Iguana advice?

I am considering getting a rescue iguana. I have a place in my house I can build an enclosure 6-7' tall, 4-5' wide, 3' deep. Will that work out ok? I have read some care sheets, but I want to think about it before I do it.

A young iguana will outgrow a 55gal tank within its first year! The length enclosure should be at least twice the length of the iguana, and the width should equal at least half the length of the iguana. It should also be tall. At least 6’ tall. They are an arboreal species and are most comfortable up high.

Check out "green iguana bite" on google images while you're thinking. Not sure what your lizard experience is but you should at least be aware of the damage an ornery iguana is capable of inflicting.

If you plan on getting a rescue think again, people re-home them / get rid of them for a reason.

I used to do iguana rescue and trust me it's no walk in the park.

The puppy dog tame one you see are exceptions and even then do not believe they are always puppy dog tame iguanas have nasty bites and tail whipping is no better, I had scars for years.

Now if you really want one get a baby from a breeder and as for your enclosure it will need to be bigger.

Iguana's aren't an easy lizard so unless you have experiance you may be getting over your head, I had one before and gave up 1/2 a room to it for years. Even the tame ones will claw you up a lot when they try to climb up you if you're not wareing long sleeves. Make sure you are able to keep adiquite humidity, that was always my most difficult part. Rehomeing a rescue seems like a noble cause but be sure you're able to give it the care and space it needs before trying.

Sorry it took a while to respond but I did decide to pass. Thanks for the advice! I did end up with a younger tegu instead. Wonderful pet and fun project building his home
