I use them to break the ice on people who dont like snakes or have a fear of them. I do the same with my tarantula molts. Majority of the time if you can get someone to touch the skin of 1, you can get them to touch 1 without running and screaming.

I think we kept the first one we were able to stretch out without tearing (usually get them in a tight ball) for awhile. Not sure who ended up tossing it but all the rest have always just gone in the trash. I think a first snakes shed is pretty exciting but I think for most it loses it's appeal quickly considering how many they will go through in their life time.

I have the first couple from my boa. The rest I turn into crafts and accessories. I'm going to start applying them to jewelry next.

apparently BHB reptiles keeps some of the large ones, nicely rolled up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-itUA4UYtFw 3:30 onward, in the background

i guess most people just throw them out once they figure out that the sheds keep coming and dont sell on ebay. i would keep the best ones, they can be a nice giveaway, if a family with children visits a breeding facility and the children get really excited about the snakes, a shed in good condition given for free may make them even more happy and makes the memory last.

one thing i am REALLY curious about: when a nice morph BP dies from old age, what about the actual skin? now that, if properly preserved and turned into leather, is actually worth something. it maintains all of the pattern, and quite a lot of the colors. i mean, in australia, they now keep & breed alligators in captivity only for the skin (and some really low quality meat). so the market is huge. in the wild, some species of giant snakes get hunted or poached for their skin, and just like with alligator skin, there could be a green and environmentally conscious alternative. alligator skin produced in captivity is being sold at high prices to luxury fashion brands, and these turn it into luxury products. there are ethical problems, of course, people fear that a pet snake may end up more valuable dead than alive. but we seem to be able to figure it out for other species, people sometimes get their cats and dogs preserved, people bring old or lame horses to a specialized butcher, people donate their own body parts and organs after death.

given the potential value of the skin of a deceased and proven to be captive-bred snake, i wonder why there isnt more going on. i only heared about one taxidermist in the USA who works with deceised pet reptiles and sells professionally prepared skins and skeletons, and i only know about this one because i watched a video of a reptile show walkthrough that showed his products, unfortunately i could not get any name or contact information out of the video.

and yes, i apologize, this is a blatant attempt of a thread takeover.
