how often to breed rats
scold me for not using the search bar..but how often do you guys breed your females? I have three litters and expecting another. The first litter dropped last Wednesday, 8 days ago. I'm wondering when I can introduce a male back to this momma...

Soon as the rats are weaned my females are getting back in the rotation

so that's about 4-5 weeks, correct?

The total cycle is 6 or 7 weeks
gestation last 3 weeks and babies get weaned at 3 to 4 weeks (average litter I wean at 3 weeks, anything 14 and over I wean at 4 weeks)

Re: how often to breed rats
I have 12 tubs with 2 females each. The racks are 6 high. I have 2 male rats, one per rack that start on the top bin and move down every 7-10 days. Once they get to the bottom of the rack, they go back to the top and continue on.

I give the girls a month off between litters after they are weaned out.

Re: how often to breed rats
My girls get a couple months break in between litters. I rotate through my females, breeding 2 girls every 1-2 weeks.
Why keep a snake? Why keep any animal? Because you enjoy the animal, find something beautiful and fascinating about it, and it fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.
