Ovulation?
Hey guys, this is my first breeding season, ive been puttin my male desert pin with my spider. ive never seen a lock myself, but it might be the fact that im at work all day, and when i get home i just clean the tubs and head to bed..anyways.. recently shes been laying alot like this. does this mean she is in ovulation? or do they just do that this time a year around? Sorry for the dumb newb question, but any help would be great, so i can go and get the incubator and supplies ready!
Thank you
Sam

This is one of the many signs of a breeding female. When/if you see your 1st OV you will not be able to miss it. She will look like she just swallowed a huge rat. My first year was last year and I was relentless trying to catch all the telltale signs. Have a great time and remember that it is quite possible that you may miss the OV. Watch for growth around her lower third even if you miss the the actual OV you will definitely at least see a visible build in this area. Aftyou verify that point watch for a shed cycle soon after, I noticed that shortly before OV my females stopped accepting the males, where I would see lock all the time now there were none. Keep your eye on her, I think you will have a nice clutch coming your way soon.

She is building. She is using gravity to reposition her folicles. Great sight to see! Could mean a clutch in the future!

Re: Ovulation?
Agree with all the comments, great sign! Best of luck, the breeding process is fun all the way to the end, especially first time. You'll be elated when the eggs arrive and then hatch. Cool stuff. If you make this a habit annually, some friendly advice ... I track the weight of all my breeder girls every couple weeks. In addition to the telltale signs, the weight is a good measure of progress. Breeding a dozen girls this year and most have gained 400-700+ gms since August. So keep feeding her aggressively while she's building, its amazing how the appetites explode and then just as suddenly stop. Again good luck and keep us posted. Cheers.
