Re: breeding firefly
Good info, thanks! I'm not too sure of my budget yet, but I know it will be under $1000. Would I get a better deal if I wait for repticon? It will be back here in April.

Re: breeding firefly
Finding adult females at a show is not very likely.
With that budget I would say that your choices are Spider, Pin, Pastel, Mojave, Lesser, Cinny, YB, Black Pastel.
Some breeders will let go of proven females right after they lay their so this is about to be the right time.

Re: breeding firefly
So if I buy a female that just laid eggs, how long will I have to wait to breed again?

Re: breeding firefly
I usually give females at least 6 months as a minimum + they must be back on food and be back to pre-breeding weight + some more.
Just remember not all females will go every year and sometimes adult females take time to adjust and refuse to eat for you and can only be bred the following season.

Re: breeding firefly
Dang...I really just want to breed as a fun project for the family. I guess I'm trying to find the fastest way to getting some eggs, but I still want to make the best of it and produce some cool colors... Would I come out better buying a sub adult to reduce the risk that comes with buying an adult female?

There is never any guarantee with breeding I have a 6 year old female raise since hatching and I am still yet to get a clutch from her first attempt was 4 years ago.
Breeding is about PATIENCE there is no other way around it.

Re: breeding firefly
I think im still going to buy an adult female. At least now I know what questions to ask the seller. And hopefully I can find a seller honest enough to not try and pawn off a non breeder on me. I do want to try to hold out for a two gene snake. Hopefully I get lucky
