Plissken is finally officialy switched over to rats, last night he ate his first unscented rat like a champ. A method I used to enhance his response was to heat the rats head in particular with a hair dryer. After dangling his rat for a bit I decided to warm it up since it had cooled a little from me playing rat puppet. I held a hair dryer over the rats head for a minute or two and this realy helped I feel, in getting a nice strike within seconds. The short tail was out looking for food even before it was his turn ( greedy!)

Rusty!
I'm going to try a f/t tonight. I've got some out of town trips coming up this summer, and I am going to be having people who don't normally care for snakes look after Amber (with strict instructions from me of course). I think that being able to feed f/t is best because I wouldn't ask someone to go buy a live mouse, prekill, then offer to the snake in a seperate enclosure. With frozen thawed, all that would be needed is to thaw, warm, and make the mouse dance in front of a hide.
Any last words of advice before I try switching Amber tonight?

If Amber is already eating pre-killed and you get the temp right, you'll probably have an uneventful switch. I would suggest using a thick (like freezer-style) plastic bag to do the thawing in to keep the rodent dry and help retain the "yummy" scent, and remember that normal body temp for mice and rats is ~98.6, so you should (in most cases) be aiming for 98.6-100F for the warmed temp. Good luck!
