Quick humidity question! HELP APPRECIATED!
Does the humidity level differ in an empty eggbox compared to when you you put the eggs inside?
Does the warmth of the eggs increase the percentage, and if so, how much?
We have only 85-87% humidity in our eggbox now that we've tried it out for a week or so..
We've tried only Vermiculite and mixed with Perlite. We mix the water/Vermiculite 1:1 by weight.
We have no holes and even plastic wrap to seal the lid better. The temp in the incubator is perfect.
If all else fails, i guess we'll have to use a light diffuser to put the eggs on and then soak the {removed} out of the substrate like i've seen people do.
But they're hard to find here in Sweden and are not sold in any stores like in the states..:/
Please help, we have eggs incoming in a few weeks or less!

What are you measuring humidity with?
I go by condensation forming on the sides of the egg box. If you have condensation, you are obviously sitting very close to 100%. Here is one of my little incubators ready for eggs any day now.

Thanks but that doesn't answer my question
There's condensation on the sides though,
but the hygrometer is new and seems to work fine.
So why is it only 85-ish?

?? Sarcasm?
If not, that could be the answer to your question. The hygrometer you have may not be calibrated properly and is reading on the low end. Most cheap analog gauges are that: cheap. Swap it out for 1-2 quality digital indoor/outdoor guages and you'll probably get a more accurate reading.

No sarcasm, it was pretty cheap and most of all, it's analog.
I'm gonna try it in a closed tub with a fogger and see what the numbers say.
Thx

As we speak, the hygrometer shows just over 80% in the fogger tub, so you might be right there about the bad calibration!
It should definitely be at least 95% in there.
I think we'll have to use this one for the snake tubs and buy a digital one and lay this matter to rest

Righto. Just noticed you're in Sweden... not sure if Walmart or what is available in Sweden but we recommend a Accurite brand digital indoor/outdoor thermometer for around $12 US. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Acu-Rite-I...mometer/896347
The sell them on Amazon as well.
