I live in the southeast, Georgia actually, and we are having an ice storm tonight. Where I am at we are expecting over an inch of ice and 3" of snow. They are calling this storm catastrophic and are expecting over one million to lose power for 2-5 days. We have the animals listed in my signature. This is going to be interesting

Ya im in GA too. Midwest by birth, so the "winter storms" here dont really freak me out. If my animals loose power tho im gonna be irritated. Really glad i picked up a kerosene heater a while back as a contingency plan, looks like I may get a chance to use it.

as long as u find something like a battery powered heater or something that runs of kerosene to keep the heat up in a room and get the ambient temps in the 80s u should be good for a couple of days

Your snake can go a couple days with no heat before they will be in begin to suffer or be in danger, If you don't have access to generators or a heat source I recommend wrapping your enclosures in blankets or towels, I have used this method before when I lost power and prior to owning a generator and it did help.

No kerosene heater, but I do have a fireplace and plenty of wood. I also bought a bunch of hand warmers. Hopefully we can make it work. Any of you ever used hand warmers? I was told to tape them to the outside of the tanks

Hand warmers are a great idea, also heat packs can be bought at Home Depot fairly cheap.

Heat Packs or Hand warmers are good, We used them on our BP when we moved him home.

I think you'll be fine with the Fireplace, if they are not in the same room as it, it could be helpful to do that. I had a Fireplace for a few years and It was niiiice.

Also, my friend had a Lizard, when they lost power they boiled water and put in bottles around the tank, and when cooled down enough they put it inside the tank. Don't know how it worked, but they did that.

Hand warmers work, just be aware that they can get too hot so your snake shouldn't come into direct contact with them. Also, your two BP's can go into snake bags or pillow cases, then put them under your shirt. Your body heat will keep them toasty. For overnight put them into their own bags, then both in a tub, and put the tub under your bed covers or in your sleeping bag with you (if you sleep next to the fireplace). They will stay warm, the tub will help keep them contained, and will keep you from rolling on them and squishing them.

x2 on this. The nature center I volunteer at lost power last week and thankfully the library and closet where the animals are has a wood stove/fireplace so they were able to keep the animals warm and we were able to thaw out the rodents for feeding. They are on 3 phase power(if you understand how electricity works, if not disregard this sentence) so they did get 2 phases back and were able to use a portable electric heater until the 3rd phase came back on.
