Will my BP ever be the same?

About a month and a half ago, my BP unfortunately got a RI. I took her to the vet and the vet gave me some meds for her. I proceeded to give her shots twice a week for three and a half weeks. It was longer because the RI was not gone after the first two weeks so I was told to continue for another week and a half. The problem is that my BP was not shy in the least. I'd take her out all the time and she would eat and drink in front of me. Sometimes she would even drink from her water bowl while I was changing the water as she was drooped around my neck. Now, she is believed to be RI free, which is of course great news. However, she is scared as hell of me. She won't drink in front of me, she wont eat (not too worried about this yet, it is winter after all), but the thing that bugs me the most is how she acts. If she has her head poking out of her hide when I walk in the room, she'll shoot back inside. Even if she is almost all the way out of her hide with just her rear inside, she'll back up into it as fast as she possibly can. She never did that before her RI. Will she ever forget and return to the way she used to be?

No one can really answer that. Each snake is different.

For right now, she just expects you to jab her with something sharp when you pick her up. That will take time to change. Only thing you can do is give her time, continue to take care of her, and see if she gets back to normal.

I would imagine that if at one time she was really good about being handled and being around you, that given enough time she will at least get better than she is now even if she never gets back to her old self completely...but that's just a guess.

As 200xth said, only time will tell. My guess is that in time, she'll realize the stabbing is over and you are her caretaker meaning you bring her food and attention. I wish you and her well..
