Hide Issue
So when i first got my BP i just had one hide on the hot side, but I've read a lot its better to have 2. I went and got a new one, its a big tree. Thought it would be cool for her to go in it and climb around on it. Now I've noticed she is staying in the new hide, which is on the cool side, pretty much all the time. Is this a problem? I was thinking about switching them so the tree is on the hot side, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions? I know they will choose feeling secure over the temperature and I don't want her to have problems because of it.

Just make sure the temps and humidity are good and don't worry about the hides. Mine did the same thing. He would only stay in the warm hide, then I got the same tree you're talking about and he only stayed in there, then we put a bigger hide on his cool side and now he stays in there. I quit trying to figure him out.

So long as the temps are okay then I wouldn't consider it a problem. He will regulate his heat appropriately, he might go in the warm hide when you don't notice, or at night when they are most active. I wouldn't worry about it

Re: Hide Issue
Thanks guys! I was just making sure. She loves hanging out on top of the tree. Probably to get close to bask in the heat. I just figured a way to rig the lamp so its "floating" a little more than an inch from the screen. Wanted to be safe since she can more easily get to the top an burn herself. She's still hesitant when I handle her but she loves hanging out on my neck!

Could you post a link or a piccy of the hide? It sounds pretty cool! My CHE will be the same, about and inch away from the sides of the casge at every point. Better safe than sorry! Glad she seems to be enjoying your company

Ideally you would have two identical hides, but like the others said you don't have to worry about it as long as your temps are good. My BP spent several weeks in her cool hide and I was coming up with all sorts of paranoid scenarios about what might be wrong But she eventually discovered the hot side of the tank. Your snake will thermoregulate as she sees fit, just let her do snake things.
