Odd looking BP butt/vent scale?
Hey,
So myself and my Girlfriend are still "new" to reptiles/snakes but we are on our second one now, and we had good luck and learned a fair bit with our first one but of course still learning things..
ANYWAYS!!
Our New BP has been settling in fine to his new environment, and we took him out today to check on him and I noticed his vent scale doesn't seem to be flush with the scales behind his "butt" like our other BP. Now i've done some research and it doesn't look like a prolapse [at least from a quick google search] but it doesn't necessarily look "normal"...I think...BUT It could be i suppose.. he is a male so it may just how males are or something?? Not sure, as he is our second Reptile.
His husbandry is fine (exactly the same as our other BP)
I managed to get a couple pictures. Hopefully they portray it well..

Any idea on what it is and how to make it better if its wrong?
We have had him about a week +1 day and fed him tuesday Feb 4th if that helps. He hasn't pooped yet since we've had him also. If any of that helps.

No idea, we got him last friday from his previous (unknowledgeable in keeping snakes, as his conditions were well below par) owner. He had shed stuck still. but we soaked him and got it off within a day. He is showing signs of preparing to shed (pink/red tummy and foggy eyes now) so I can't imagine how long the previous shed was there for..
He had a pretty stressful night tonight from some tape that got stuck to him.. :'(
Feel awful for the little guy

Re: Odd looking BP butt/vent scale?
To me it doesn't look bad. See after the shed if it gets worst. If it does make sure he stays on moist paper towels and clean his vent everyday. We had one of our females that had a terrible vent no that long ago. Took her to the vet. They gave her some medicine in a cream form and told us to watch it and see if got better.

Will be watching carefully, nearest reptile vet is at least 2.5 or 5 hours away so hopefully it will clear up..

Re: Odd looking BP butt/vent scale?
The reason I asked about the last shed is because sometimes after a shed there will be just a bit of blood in the enclosure. Easily noticeable if you use some type of paper substrate (news print, kraft paper, butcher paper, or paper towel). Every time it's happened to me, the source seems to be the vent scale / vent area. My thought was maybe the same thing happened to your guy, but it ended up getting a little bit infected. With another shed coming up, it's something to keep a watch on.

I know in your original post you said you were a new keeper. It sounds like last night you found out the hard way why you should never put any type of tape in your snake's enclosure. They will find it every time, and the results can be really bad.

As for the vent scale, Ill come back and post what the outcome is after he sheds, and hope for the best.
Yea, It wasn't the best idea, but I guess it happens to a lot of people since there is thousands of results on it. I fixed that issue now though! and never again
