How often to feed breeder males?

How often do all you experienced breeders out there feed your males? I want to know because mine are in the 700-800gram range now. I don't think they need to get much bigger than they are now to be productive breeders. I also want to keep them health at a good weight. What do you feed your males? Do you prefer to keep them on mice? Do you feed them every 6-7 days instead of every 4-5 days like females?

I offer them food as often as I do everybody else; they just refuse a heck of a lot more.

In general, everyone is offered a small to med-small rat once every 6-8 days, male and female alike. I don't offer any difference in prey. They kinda set their own feeding schedule. This time of year, for instance, the older males generally aren't interested in eating and the ladies are happy to take left overs.

Also, I don't worry about letting my males get 'too big.' Unless he's obese (really, I don't like my females to be too fat, either), I'm unconvinced there's any reason to sweat it.

    I offer/feed them all once a week.

They do tend to refuse more often in the breeding season, but that is par for the course.

I offer once a week, and they either eat, or they do not. Depends on the male and the season. I just keep an eye on it and am willing to pull the male from breeding if I do not like the direction he is going.

I offer food once a week the difference is in the size of the prey, females get medium rats (80 to 120 grams) males get small rats (around 55/65 grams)

BTW even big males over 1000 grams make great breeders

Thank you, Deborah! I happen to personally know of a 1400 gram Pastel Lesser boy who should be sporting a Bow-Chicka-Bow-Wow 1970's mustache due to all the action he's working up
