    Humidity for egg boxes!?!?!?!?!?

Hello to all the great folks out there and I hope your seasons going good!

I have a question on humidity when it comes to egg boxes, I used the advanced search "key word" humidity and didn't find any other threads so sorry if the community already answered this on.....

I'm using shoebox size sterilite tubs for my boxes with vermiculite. I'm in the middle of running some test on temps and humidity to get everything ready for my eggs. The issue is I've not been able to get my humidity up above 90%. The first test box was unvented and got as high as 81%. Then I misted the sides of the box a bit and got it up to 90% but after about 7 or so hours it went back down to between the high 70's to the mid to high 80's. The second box I used was also unvented and I added a bit more water when mixing my vermiculite and my Thermo-Hygrometer max low was 79% and topped out at 86%.

First question is what is the very lowest the humidity level can go without it being an issue?
Second what can I do to better maintain the humidity for the two months my eggs are in?

Without you nice Ladies and Gents out there in Herp world I would be truly lost.....!!!! SO from me and family of snakes we thank you!

Put plastic wrap on first, then lid, you'll be set as long as your medium is damp enough...vents not needed, just exchange air air once a week.

Cool Re: Humidity for egg boxes!?!?!?!?!?

Thanks steve_r34 and RobNJ, I didn't know about the trick with the plastic rap so I'll go on and try it.

Also about the levels, what is the lowest possible humidity I should let it get to before panic mode, I've seen in blogs as low as 75%, while other warn not to let it drop below 95-100%. I understand just like with anything there are many paths people take that work for them but differ from others, but with some things they have to be spot on, just want to be sure I won't let my eggs die because of my own ignorance.

    Thanks again!

From our experience we do not worry about humidity. Maybe because the method we do keeps the humidity up. We use a 6.5 quart tub (close enough to a shoe box) and we drill 1/8" holes, one on each end for a total of 2. Then when we mix the vermiculite we mix it 1:1 ratio with water by weight. Usually its 250 grams vermiculite and 250 grams of water. Remember vermiculite can absorb 28 times itself in water thats why its used to ship bottles full of liquid. Incubator is set at 89° and they get enough air flow from me opening the tubs every few days from not being patient haha. Goodluck!
