Hey guys. Its my first season breeding. I have my female and male in a 41qt tub. Hot spot 87. Cold 78. Humidity at 48%.

this is the first season for my desert pinstripe male aswell. And my female spider is a proven 10egg breeder.

Theyve been together for 3 days already and I havnt seen any signs of locking. Is that normal? I took them apart today and tried feeding them. The Female ate right away. And the male still refuses to eat. Is this normal?
Is there something I can do to make him want to mate?

Alright for most people your temps seem perfect. To me we don't use the cool down method. We leave our snake room at 82-84 degrees and then the hot spot is left at 90-95 degree. We pair snakes up on Sunday night and then pull the males on Thursday morning. Feed on Saturday and repeat the process. The time it takes a snake to lock up is determined by that snake. All snakes are different. We had males jump right into breeding and some take almost all season before we see a lock. Another factor can be if it is their first season. Sometimes a female wont produce if it is her first season. keep pairing them up week after week and be patient. Oh another thing is you do know that if you produce a desert female that female will not be able to produce viable eggs in the future.

Thank you for the info! Much help! And as for the female desert. Ye I figured. Hopefully they come out female spiders and spinners. And not deserts. Is there any thing I can do to make the male want to mate even though its his first season? I dont have any other males to put him with so he can get fired up. Is there any other methods?

No methods that i have tried. Some people stick another males shed skin in with the male they are trying to get to breed. I usually just come to terms that if it is a snakes first year more than likely he/she will not produce that way i dont give my hopes up.

Just because you never see the lock, does not mean he hasn't sealed the deal Sugar Shane had this happen with his pied in the first year he bred him to his hets. Ended up with 17 eggs and 9 visual pieds. Just keep pairing and offering food when resting. However, there are some that just don't breed their first year. It all depends on the snake.

This is my first year also. I tried to shed trick once and it worked for me (after a month of unsuccessful pairing)
