    So sad

I have said it before and Ill say it again! The pet shops that keep their snakes in dirty cages, with their excrement and 5 or 6 past sheds and 4 or 5 snakes in the same tank AND with no heating source what so ever should be arrested! It is animal cruelty!

Talk to the owners, maybe you can change them. Otherwise, stop shopping there, stop visiting there, inform the public of their name and the deplorable conditions. You could also protest the store, make your voice and your concerns heard, right in front of their place of business and scare off potential customers (make sure its legal of course). What I am getting at is do something!

I was talking to the owner today and im hoping he takes some of my suggestions, and I would stop shopping there but sadly he is the only guy who sells live feeder rats within a reasonable driving distance. caught between a rock and a hard place

Well thats a start. You could also switch to frozen and order online. If he doesn't change you will just be supporting him and his bad habits. We all need to be doing something about these situations when we come across them, even if it is as simple as not shopping there, no matter how 'difficult' for us it might be.

Where are you located? There has got to be someone breeding rats within a reasonable distance.

I ran into the same situation here at are local store and I talked to the actual owner told him what I had saw and showed him the pics I had taken and came to find out everyone who worked there were scared to death of the snakes so I now go in once a week to help him out showing him how and what he should be doing with them becouse what I saw sickend me it was horrible and he was sickend also couse he only came in every other fridays and I guess they would make sure everything was fixed by time he came in but now all is good becouse he now just shows up unexpected and the animals are now treated the way they should be

That is a great idea! I think it is only run by him and his wife, but he is older, so I might be able to make something like that work... hmmm idea juices flowing now... he also has birds, fish, and various furry rodents... all of which im not a big fan of, but those are all in decent condition..

I never really thought of that (and if the other animals were in healthier conditions as with the OP's case) it does make a lot of sense that the people 'caring' for the snakes would be scared of them. Which is why they were neglected.
